Advanced illustration of tooth being implanted into mouthDental implants are a great solution for someone who has lost a tooth as a result of injury, periodontal disease, or other causes. Dental implants consist of a metal post that is fixed into the jaw bone and then connected to a false tooth. The implant is usually 3-6mm in diameter, so your jaw bone must be strong enough to support this.

What is the process of getting a dental implant placed?

Since the process of placing a dental implant requires surgery, you will be anesthetized during the process. Your dental surgeon will create an opening in your gum that reaches all the way down to the bone. Then, he or she will place the metal post in this opening that reaches into the jaw bone. Your bone will fuse to the metal post, securing it and further reinforcing its structural integrity. It will take some time for your mouth to heal before fitting the permanent crown or bridge on top of the post. A temporary crown or bridge can be provided for appearance and function until your mouth heals enough for the permanent false tooth to be placed.

Do you do this entire process at Haid Dental?

At Haid Dental, we do implant restoration and can have the crown created for your implant. As for the actual surgery part of this procedure, we will recommend you to an accomplished periodontist to complete the placement of the metal post. We work closely with your surgeon to make sure your results will be exactly what you want and need.

Dental implants are able to fully mimic the dental root and crown structure. This provides a solid and permanent fix for a missing tooth. If you have any questions about this process or believe you may make a good candidate for a dental implant, please don’t hesitate to contact our office in Worthington 614-855-2610 or Dublin 614-889-7661.
