Woman in dental chair awaiting sedation dentistry procedure

Fear of the dentist often leads patients to avoid scheduling their regular dental visits for years, until an extreme need for a dental procedure is present. Or, maybe you easily schedule your regular appointment, but as it nears, anxiety and fear begin to build. If this describes you, Sedation Dentistry might be an option.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is a technique in which the dentist uses medication to help patients relax during their appointment. At Haid Dental, we offer multiple sedation techniques so your visit can be free of anxiety and fear.

Who can benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Those who have anxiety or fear of the dentist at any level can benefit from Sedation Dentistry. From butterflies in your stomach at your appointment to full avoidance of the dentist at all costs, sedation dentistry can help you relax during your appointment. As a whole, Sedation Dentistry can make the entire process of going to the dentist stress-free for our patients.

What are the different types of Sedation Dentistry?

There are three types of sedation we provide at Haid Dental, which include the following: IV sedation (deep sedation), oral sedation (moderate sedation), and nitrous oxide (minimal sedation). Each type of sedative provides a different level of sedation, which makes it easy to personalize for your visit each time. With IV sedation, patients sleep through the duration of their procedures and often do not remember any of their visit upon awakening.

If you choose oral sedation, we’ll prescribe you a pill to take before coming in for your visit. This will help you relax in the chair so you can have a stress-free visit. We can also provide nitrous oxide, often referred to as “laughing gas.” This option gives you a relaxed feeling as the dentist completes your procedure.

Regular visits to the dentist are important for our patients’ health and we want to do all we can to help you feel anxiety-free and comfortable during your appointment. At Haid Dental, our team is happy to help you through your fear and anxiety with the use of sedation dentistry. Our knowledgeable and capable staff will guide you each step of the way to ensure you have a great visit.
